What does a tile plow cost?
A new Soil-Max Stealth ZD tile plow starts at $20,255 for the smallest machine and $49,870 for the largest, before options. Most tile plow pages will not tell you that. Here are the three starting prices, what each one includes, and the things that move the number.
Starting prices
| Machine | From | Max depth | Pipe | Min tractor weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stealth ZD Pull Type | From $49,870 | 6.5 FT | 4 TO 10 IN | 25,000 lb |
| ZD 3-Point | From $32,920 | 5.5 FT | 4 TO 10 IN | 20,000 lb |
| ZD48 | From $20,255 | 4 FT | 3 TO 4 IN | 8,000 lb |
Every price on this site includes the boot kit the machine needs. A plow without a boot cannot lay pipe, so a price quoted without one tells you very little.
What moves the price
Boots
Boots are sized to the pipe. One boot covers one size range, so if you are installing more than one size you need more than one boot. That is real money rather than a rounding error, and it is the single biggest reason two quotes for the same machine can look different.
Grade control and RTK
You need an RTK receiver on the plow and a correction source, either a base station near enough to reach you or a virtual RTK network subscription. If you already own a receiver, the cost is a GPS adapter cable that depends on your brand and model. If you do not own one, the receiver is its own line item.
Tile cart and feeder
Not every farm needs one. It depends on how you handle reels and how far you are pulling pipe.
Freight
Covered below.
What every price includes
- The machine.
- The boot kit it needs.
- Two spare shear kits with every boot kit, at no charge, up to $1,330 of parts.
Freight
Delivery is free to your farm anywhere in the lower 48 on the ZD 3-Point and the Stealth ZD Pull Type. On the ZD48 delivery is charged by distance, and the builder shows the exact figure before you commit. You can collect from the factory at no charge on any machine.
Owning versus hiring
Hiring a contractor is a per acre cost you pay every time. Owning is a fixed cost you spread across every acre you ever tile, and you tile when your ground is ready instead of waiting on someone else's calendar. Whether that pencils out depends on how many acres you have left and how much of the work you can do yourself.
